Photo Blogging

Yesterday I installed a new plugin called PictPress that provides photologging functionality, but I can’t quite get it to work.

So far, I have been able to upload photos to the blog, but the use case is a bit awkward. The photos must already be in a directory on my server, and the plugin will then process them. Processing them involves createing thumbnails for the post, with links to the full size images.

This will be really cool if I can get the thumbnail creation to work. So far, only the post itself is created. It seems like a configuration issue, perhaps with the cache directory value… or perhaps the resize function can’t find a suitable library for the image manipulation. Either way, there’s nothing of value in the server log that indicates what may be wrong. Frustrating.

I’ve read the author’s comments (in which he is providing support to others), but none of that has given me any insight into why my installation of the plugin is only partially functioning.

This looks like a *great* piece of software, but unless I can make it work… it will simply be another non-portable cool thing that works for someone else. Yep, frustrating.

I’ve left this commentfor the author on his site:

Hey Curioso,

This plugin looks great, but I am having trouble getting the thumbnails produced....

  • The thumbnails stated working this evening, and though I'm pleased to see them, I have *no* idea why it has started working.

The cache directory now contains the images. This is really puzzling.
