Did you know that freepository offers free CVS hosting? And has done so since 1999?
If you are a regular reader, you know that I run freepository. You may not know exactly what freepository is, though.
In short, it is a source control hosting service. Secure, on-demand source code repositories that you create, control and access from anywhere on the planet. Members can use virtually any mainstream client - the web browser, Eclipse, Netbeans, WinCVS, TortoiseCVS, CVSNT or freepository’s own secure cvs command line (available for Linux and Windows, source code included).
So what’s the big deal?
Freepository allows geographically dispersed developers to come together into a common source code repository in seconds. Free, as in both speech (freepository was GPLed in Sept 2000) and beer (there’s no charge to use or download the Personal Edition). No catches, no gimmicks, no kidding.
People often ask me what I get out of this. Its simple: lots of credibility in the software space. I also believe that great engineering ideas shouldn’t be constrained by the proximity of the team members to one and other. Freepository is my contribution to eliminating those constraints.
